comments - 1Just to put the facts straight all at once there isn't one half pipe in
Finland that could compete with pipes from the States, Japan or
Europe. Our resorts are still slacking with this shit!

I guess the biggest reason is that if you wanna ride a good pipe,
the resort has to have a descent budget to be able to keep it in good shape
during the season.
Well anyway, I got a call from my filmer friend Miikka Niemi asking me
about this shoot that he wanted to do with smoke machines in the pipe!
I was like, hell yeah! That sounds like a fun thing to do but right
after that I started to think that where could we find a pipe that
would actually be rideable.
My home resort is called Ounasvaara and Miikka was talking with them
about this idea and people at the resort were totally down to hook us up!
Well the pipe ended up being not the best but we sure had a good time
doing this little clip for you! This season we are planning to do
something similar but in better conditions.
Thanks for Miikka Niemi , Anssi Jokiranta and Jussi Leinonen for
making this session happen!
Miikka also wanted to tell you that:
For me it's always important to think of something new to do and shoot.
This time it was the moment to try out smoke machines. It was a lot of work
carrying all that stuff around but in the end it worked quite well. I like the
feeling you get when it's all dark and you shoot with lights.
It's kind of planning a movie set and shooting snowboarding in it.
Our plan is to do this thing again this year. Wait to see what we come up with!

Last season I got to experience something I had never done before in Finland. I got to ride powder during mid-season! My favourite Finnish resort Ruka had a great amount of snow during February and March. For 1,5 weeks I was there to take best out of it!
I was filming with Miikka Niemi (Flatlight Films) who was making a movie for Ruka and Pyhä. I can tell you that this guy has ideas....lot of ideas! That is great when I sometimes didn't have the motivation to jump, Miikka could find something cool to do and then I would be on it again!
Miikka says: " It fun to shoot with Antti. A lot of creativity and motivation. It's important to try to come up with new features. In Finland it's way harder to ride outside parks. In the Alps there's so many mountains and areas but here there's only small hills. It's really good for creativity but doesn't help with bigger backcountry jumps."
I think one of the best things I did last season in Ruka was all the night shoots in Park. Pow jumps over the trees were wicked too! Ruka is pretty small resort but still just offers so many possibilities to ride in different areas of snowboarding. All this is rare since we're just known for icy jumps.
Also during early season I usually go to shred in Ruka because they have a good early season park thing going on. It takes about 2-4 minutes a run so you can imagine how many jumps I get to do during one day. It's great. It's nice way to get old tricks back together and try new ones in a resort that I can actually call my second home.
Here's the full movie for free. Check it out!
Up coming season
Lot of things changed over this summer. The biggest thing being
probably that I don't ride for Flow Snowboards anymore. I'm happy to
tell you that I didn't get the BOOT! Things inside the company were
just moving in a different direction to ware I was, so we both
mutually I decided to part ways. Anyways, I'm really thankfull for all
the years that I was apart of the Flow program. Those guys gave me a
lot and where a big part of where I have gotten to now in my life.
Around July this summer I visited Nidecker office in
Rolle,Switzerland. These guys offered me something I've kinda always
wanted to try. Pretty much full control of the board design and
graphics for a snowboard. I'm going to be part of their special
projects program, which you already have probably heard of
YESnowboards as they are apart of it as well. The quality and set up
is insane, with the ability of us to be able to fully define how we
see our boards and how we want them. They even have there own lab for
us to rock up and work with technicians directly to get the boards and
graphics fully dialed, which is amazing. It is truly rider driven and
super core, which under bigger companies is just not possible these
days.
My board line is going be called Antti for NDK but you will probably
notice it from the Logo A+. It's basically my own brand in a lot of
ways with NDK as my partners. Boards will be out in the fall of 2010
but I'm going to do special pre sales already as soon as we have the
product dialed through my website. My boards are going to be
affordable so it will be accessible to kids out there, but will still
be of a superior quality and standard. With this whole new set up of
my website and boards, I'm stoked as it sets up a full program that
allows me to hopefully give something back to the sport that has
already given me so much!
Now that I look at my schedule for this season it looks so freaking
hectic! One contest after another until February. This is because it's
an Olympic year. I personally would like to do only TTR contests but
to qualify for Olympics you need to do FIS events and FIS to put it
planely SUCK! In FIS there is no respect for creativity during the
contests, but Olympics are big deal if you ride pipe contests and
that's why I wanna give it a go at least this season. I don't see
myself trying to do it again after this season. I want to focus on
filming and fun contests such as Air&Style or Toyota Big Air as they
are more defining to what Snowboarding is about to me.
From February until late May I have booked few really cool trips with
friends, photographers and filmer Miikka Niemi (flatlightfilms.com) to
Japan, Switzerland, Lapland and the USA. From all these trip I will
provide footage for you to get your kicks here at my website. We will
also bring the whole season together as an movie after season is
finished, plus I will also keep you updated from behind the scenes at
events and other happenings that I will be at.
I hope all this will stoke you out as well and make you go out shred
and with your friends who share the same passion for snowboarding as
we do!?
