Greetings from Niigata! Here we are waiting for weather and every day making plans. Yet they change every day because what forecast tells isn’t always what the morning brings. What can I say – weather changes rapidly.
By all odds, Niigata is one of the most promising places to ride in Japan. There’s so much different terrain here. But still, we couldn’t find a thing without my good friend and the best guide around Takumi Nagai. We’ve been with my filmer Matti Ollila here for a month by his wing, and it’s been great.
A good thing about Niigata is that here you don’t find any other western people. In a small distance you find famous resorts for park riding, but this area is just backcountry. People just don’t come here, because there’s no hotels or bars. So for us this is perfect! Locals are amazed by the spots we want to ride. We went to see the mayor and he couldn’t believe it’s great to film at his territory. He didn’t even know that the backcountry of Niigata is amazing.
We have still one week to go. Been waking up every day at five to get the best out of cold mornings. We try to find new spots from roadsides and film as much as we can.
Here are some photos from our times here.
